Boil the Breakfast Early

I think this chapter discussed more than just the relationship between different ways that eggs could be made and different types of music. It emphasized how one egg could be made and eaten in so many different fashions, just as one song could be interpreted in various ways by different people. In this sense, your own neighbor may not hear the same song that you heard being played because your experiences and background are totally different.

...I thought this chapter was really interesting...I like my eggs scrambled ...I like hip-hop or alternative music.

To add to what Lincy said, I think the chapter was really using the different ways to fix eggs as an analogy for the subjectivity of individual experience and preference. But the fascinating bit is how much more interested we are in OTHER people's preferences over our own(once we get past making sure those preferences are met), hearing their stories and learning what makes them tick. Because there's a little of the "familiarity breeds contempt" idea associated with our own preferences, we overlook or dismiss what could be the deeper meanings and feelings of our private individuality and sort of take those ideas for granted. Until we step outside of our internal vision of ourselves, we can't get the same breadth of picture that OUR viewers are getting.
